The Canadian Federation of University Women
Founded in 1919, the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) is a voluntary, non-partisan, non-profit, self-funded bilingual organization of 10,000 women university graduates in Clubs across Canada. CFUW members are active in public affairs, working to raise the social, economic and legal status of women, as well as improve education, the environment, peace and human rights for all.
CFUW welcomes all women who support our goals. CFUW has over 100 clubs across Canada with over 8,000 members. Approximately 5,000 members make up the CFUW membership in Ontario across 54 clubs.
CFUW establishes its policies at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) where members debate resolutions developed at the grassroots level. Following the AGM, delegations from CFUW meet with the provincial and federal governments to present the CFUW Policy Brief.
CFUW is a founding member of the Graduate Women International (GWI) formerly known as International Federation of University Women, an organization of 71 national affiliates with membership of over 180,000. Through GWI, CFUW provides support for women worldwide, in their pursuit of higher education and economic stability.
CFUW has consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York and sends a delegate to the March meeting.
