Press Release - Scholarships 2017
The Canadian Federation of University Women - Brampton is pleased to announce its 2017 Scholarship Winners in the City of Brampton. Members of the Canadian Federation of University Women are committed to the pursuit of knowledge, the promotion of education, and the status of women and human rights. It is for these reasons that CFUW Brampton has supported the education of women by awarding more than $150,000 in scholarships since the local club's inception. Close to $1 million in scholarships and bursaries was awarded by the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Clubs across the country this past year.
In its 56 years of service, CFUW Brampton has seen dynamic growth in our city. CFUW Brampton is proud to meet the challenge of offering a scholarship to each of Brampton's 23 Public and Catholic Secondary Schools with graduating classes. The club has established the following criteria for awarding our scholarships: the recipient must be a female student residing in the city of Brampton who has achieved academic excellence while participating fully in a variety of school and community activities. All recipients must be entering a degree granting course in a Canadian university.
Expressing thanks, these are some of the comments made by this year’s recipients -
- "This scholarship will give the other recipients and myself the opportunity to pursue university studies in programs and fields in which female representation is limited."
- "I would like to thank you for your ongoing interest in promoting education at secondary schools . . . When the community comes together to help students do their best, I am encouraged to do even better."
- "This scholarship you have given me has inspired me to give back to the community in the future."
- "By awarding me this scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school – learning."
